History of iker

IKER has been producing top quality sofas, armchairs, chairs and other kinds of furniture for over 15 years. The furniture is designed to fit in both living and public spaces. Furniture along with all the additions is sold to customers in 30 countries all over the world. But this is just the beginning…
We observe the changes in modern world, we talk to people, and we try to recognize their needs, desires, dreams and style. While establishing the company my target was to create unique and individual design and we do our best to reach this goal.

To my mind, design is not a trend or fashion. Design relates to the important issues of being functional, ergonomic, social, economic, it comments on cultural events. It is impossible to produce ideal products without the proper meaning of design. This is the reason why we not only invest in modern machines, experienced employees and top quality raw materials but also in people who know the meaning of design and can translate their knowledge and talent into the language of forms. I am fortunate to work with this kind of people – they are our designers: Marek Gawlik, Mikołaj Wierszyłłowski, Gernot Oberfell, Jan Wertel, Wojtek Barański, Tomek Rygalik, Robert Majkut, Michał Biernacki, Wojciech Mazur and Krystian Kowalski. Their creativity makes our furniture well known and appreciated around the world. We are one from very few Polish furniture producers showing their products at Internazionale Saloni del Mobile in Milan and also at Design Festival in London. Publications about our furniture are placed in such esteemed magazines as: Design Report, Blueprint or Surface.

Many of our furniture went down to the history of Polish design. Flaming set can be a good example. Designed in 1996 by Marek Gawlik and Jerzy Schultek. This piece of furniture has been placed in the 100 of the best designed Polish products of XX Century, presented during the ”Rzeczy pospolite – polskie produkty 1899-1999” exhibition. In the collection of Modern Design at National Museum in Warsaw you can find our furniture – armchair Lemming and Maple chairs. IKER’s furniture take part in the presentations of Polish design such as: ”Dizajn - polskie drogi”, ”Made in Poland”, ”Prodeco”, ”Design Alive!”, ”Łódź Design Festival”. Our furniture has been awarded with: British Council Award (Hidden), Prodeco2007 and product of the year 2007 award (Maple), Golden Medals MTP 2007 (BOXX and Lemming), distinction in Prodeco2008 and Machina Design Award2009 (Spider).

We are also trying to support important for Polish design initiatives such as: exhibition “The Best Design Diplomas” or the activity of Modern Design at National Museum in Warsaw and BWA Design gallery in Wrocław. As a producer of private and public interiors, Iker is strongly involved in the reinterpretation of important pieces of the Polish design.

Philosophy of iker

PHILOSOPHY: Above all else, Iker invests in designers. The design process should
respond to functional, ergonomic and socio-economic constraints. A designer's
talent is best expressed when know-how and culture are blended together to
create a distinctive design language.
